The Language Learning Process
Learn more about each of the steps of the language learning process through which ACT Language Schools guides its students.
What does it mean to learn a language? At ACT Language Schools, it means you'll be able to make the language your own.
Our classes focus on learning the language directly, not just teaching you about the language. You'll be able to talk about what matters to you in a customized class.
With ACT, go beyond the ordinary limits of the classroom, any self-perceived limitations, and even physical borders with real results.
Language is acquired when it has been stored in your long-term memory. Once there, you are able to recall vocabulary and grammar structures as needed in order to communicate. Unlike when you memorize words from a textbook, when you acquire the language, you own it: it's going to stay with you and be available whenever you need to use it.
Approximately eighty percent of all of our communication as human beings is non-verbal, but the twenty percent that is verbal is hugely important and is what sets us apart from any other animal. Through language, we share our ideas, opinions, and information, which is the process of communication. Our classes at ACT Language Schools are based on communication: we use the target language primarily to make your learning personally relevant. While we do reinforce your language skills with explicit grammar instruction as needed, the focus always remains on comprehension and meaningful exchanges of ideas.
Our passion at ACT Language Schools is to take you above and beyond in your language learning process. Our classes are customized to your specific goals, but the same passion and standard for excellent teaching drives each one. For students who have struggled with second-language acquisition in the past, we can't wait to take you past any self-perceived limitations on a fun, exciting language journey. You may be a professional who wants to incorporate a second language into the workplace, looking to grow your business, or offer better customer service. You may want to learn for personal reasons, better communicate with family members, or be a part of a larger community. You may also find, as we did, that language is a gateway for travel to new places and meeting new people. Whatever your starting motivation is, we can't wait to open up a new world of possibilities for you.
